The Australian Retriever is an extremely devoted family dog that will love nothing more than being with its beloved family. These pups get along great with children, other dogs, and just about everyone that they meet. They will shower you with love, and you can be sure that you will have a new best friend as soon as you bring one of these doggos home.
This mixed breed is a combination of the Golden Retriever and the Australian Shepherd, two very popular purebred dogs. Australian Retrievers are a very new breed, and they are believed to have been first intentionally bred in 2007. Given that they are so new, there isn’t too much of a standard concerning how they normally behave. That being said, both of their parent breeds are extremely kind-hearted and the Australian Retriever certainly picked up this trait.
These dogs typically weigh anywhere between 25-60 pounds. They will make the best family pets, as long as their high exercise needs are met. The Australian Retriever is full of energy and will love going to the park with their humans and playing fetch, they will especially enjoy going on hikes in nature. If they are properly socialized as puppies, they will also be very well behaved at the dog park making it a great place to let them off-leash and burn off some pent-up energy.
Both of the purebred parents of this dog are considered to be well above average when it comes to intelligence, and the Australian Retriever fits right in the same category as them. Their high intelligence will even surprise their humans sometimes, as they will pick up on new tricks in a flash. This breed is an amazing dog to have in your life, and with the amount of affection that you will receive from them, you will find it hard to remember how you ever lived without them!
